Meet your Nurtured Curl Specialists

  • Founder & Curl Specialist

I may be one of the most passionate cosmetologists you'll meet. I quite literally grew up in the beauty industry. I am seventh in three generations of cosmetologists, and I have been licensed since 2006. I am also a seventh-generation Colorado native, a happily married mama of 3, and an aspiring minimalist.

From the beginning of my career, I could see naturally textured hair was beautiful and unique. These curls didn't need to be tamed or removed, nor were they a problem to be fixed. They merely needed to be nurtured.

I am devoted to continuing my education. You'll often find me diving in and researching the newest techniques and product ingredients. I love providing the best possible service and solutions to my clients. But the passion for learning doesn't stop with me. Passing on the education to each guest in my chair makes me come alive!

I am not satisfied unless you gain the knowledge to care for your curls at home. I want you to have a great hair day every day, not just when you leave the salon. Healthy hair is always beautiful, and I want to teach you how to keep it that way.

More than anything, I want you to feel liberated! Curly hair isn't nearly as complicated as you may have heard. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to embrace the incredible hair you never knew you had.

  • Curl Specialist

I am a proud Colorado Springs native, compassionate, big-hearted, maybe a little old-school wife & mama. I grew up in the salon life as a daughter of a hairdresser, so my love for this industry started early. Oh, I also love Jesus, hanging with my boys, my 2 doggies & gardening.

As a former "I wish my hair was more like (fill in the blank)" curly girl, I can relate to the woes that come with having frizzy, kinky, curly hair. Growing up, I went down every avenue to "fix" my curl…permed it, relaxed it, and did blow-outs. If it tamed my frizz even slightly, I did it.

I quickly learned my curls were pretty hard to fight. So I learned to nurture, embrace & love them the way they needed. That love shines back to me in glorious, slightly less frizzy, imperfect curls. Most importantly, my style is simple & easy to maintain, what I need as a busy, working mama.

I love showing my guests what their natural texture is capable of when we stop fighting it, simplify the maintenance & styling process & ultimately teach everyone to love what the good Lord gave ya. I can't wait to show you how!

  • New Talent - Curl Stylist & Barbering

As Taylor Swift once said, "All I do is try, try, try." And boy, did I try to manage my hair. My love for curls, waves, and everything in between did not start in the industry. It began in Jami's chair when I was a client desperately trying to find a hairdresser who could figure out how to tame my waves and answer my burning questions.

Three years later, I realized the subject of my fascination could not be found in the college classroom but in cosmetology school. I graduated as a top-rated student and received my license in February 2022. However, I couldn't stop there. I went back to school for barbering and also graduated at the top of my class while apprenticing with Jami and learning everything I could about curls.

You may find my nose in a book with a Starbucks coffee in hand outside the salon. I'm also a barista, so it is only fitting that I have a latte close by. I enjoy baking, especially beignets, and am an avid moviegoer. Unlike my coworkers, I cannot claim the title of Colorado native, but I have lived here most of my life except for Nebraska and a quick stint in California.

I want to give back what the Nurtured Curl gave me: a love and appreciation for the hair I was born with. I learned how to nurture my curls to their full potential and now look forward to showing my guests how to get a consistent good hair day. My goal is to provide education and love for all curly hair types that walk through the door. Coloring, cutting, and barbering are my faves.

I may be new to the industry, but my intentions remain the same, to show you the beauty of your hair. You are my priority, and I hope to give you the comfort I received when I started my hair journey on the other side of the chair. I can't wait to love on and nurture those curls.

  • New Talent - Curl Stylist

All my life, I’ve been surrounded by curls. My mom, sister, aunts, friends, even my husband and in-laws ... everyone has curly hair! I’ve heard the woes of finding a good stylist, the horror stories of losing 6 inches of length when going for a ‘trim,’ the frustration when a stylist straightened curls to make them ‘more manageable.’

I decided I would not be part of the curl problem when I started cosmetology school. I wanted enough knowledge and skill to help every type of hair I saw in my chair. As I approached graduation, I found Jami at The Nurtured Curl and shadowed her for a day. Seeing the way she worked with curls and educated her clients confirmed what I had started to suspect - I had to become a curl specialist!

In my personal life, I am a hobby enthusiast. I love trying new things, whether a new hiking spot or restaurant or a snack from the discount rack at Sprouts. If I haven’t tried it, I probably want to! On weekends, you might find me camping with my husband and dog, training for triathlons, baking sourdough bread, or putzing around my garden. I am always interested in discussing books, food, and the random science facts I learn from my favorite podcast -Ologies.

I might be your biggest fan that you just haven’t met yet. I am obsessed with the unique beauty each head of curls presents. I love helping folks redefine their hair. Where you might see only problems, I see beauty and only potential. Whether it is the loosest wavy or the tightest curl, I celebrate them all! Our differences are beautiful and powerful. I want to help you love, nurture, and rock your beautiful curls because nobody has hair like you!

What our clients are saying

“I have curly/ wavy hair that I had no clue what to do with. I spent hours online trying to research CGM. I bought tons of products and had no idea what to do with them...then comes Jami! She was amazing! I learned more in this appointment than I have in months of research. I wish I had found her months ago. She was encouraging, friendly and full of useful information. Thank you Jami! My hair and I love and appreciate you!”

— Mary W.

“Jami was wonderful to work with, she is a curl master! She was engaging and so fun to work with. She understood exactly what I wanted and I felt so comfortable with her. She not only understands curly hair, but how to shape it as well. She spent a good amount of time with my hair and taught me more about my curls. Love my hair even more now. Thank you Jami!”

— Tamar L.

I saw Teresa a few weeks ago, and I got one of my favorite curly haircuts. I have had a rough time finding someone to do it right! I usually need it flat ironed to look good, and if it’s curly, it looks really off. Teresa knew exactly what to do, and she taught me what to do to help my hair. I’ve been doing it since I saw her. It’s made my hair ritual easier and faster. Thank you so much!

— Sharon K.

“I am very thankful to have found Jami. She took my barely wavy, fine, unhealthy hair and found curl I NEVER knew I even had. Jami took the time to explain to me how to take care of my hair so that my curls would pop. Boy did they pop, what a nice surprise to find out when you have the proper cut and products how much curl exists. Jami is very knowledgeable and she took the time to explain each step, each product and how following her suggestions I could transform my hair. I would highly recommend Jami, I wish I had met her many years ago!
